Let me tell you something I don't share lightly: I once had $30,000 in credit card debt on top of a mortgage I wasn't sure I could afford. Every month felt like I was drowning just a little bit more. I'd lie awake at night wondering how I'd ever dig myself out of that hole.
It took three years. Three years of saying no to things I wanted, of making hard choices, of feeling like I was walking through mud. But I did it. And more importantly, I learned something profound along the way: getting control of your money isn't about being perfect with spreadsheets or having some special talent for numbers. In fact, as an accountant running my own business, most people assumed I knew everything there was to know about managing finance and had everything under control. Instead I learned that it's about understanding your relationship with money, making a plan that actually fits your life, and having someone walk alongside you who gets it.
That journey changed everything for me. Not just my bank balance, but how I felt about myself and my future.
I created Financial Fitness with Julz because I believe every woman deserves to feel confident and in control of her money. Not stressed. Not ashamed. Not overwhelmed. Just confident, capable, and ready to build the future she wants.
For over 30 years, I've worked with micro businesses and individuals, helping them make sense of their finances. I've seen the relief on people's faces when the numbers finally start to make sense. I've watched people transform from anxious and overwhelmed to confident and in control.
For nine years, I taught in business courses at GOTAFE, including Excel, manual accounting and computerised accounting software - MYOB, QuickBooks, Xero - helping people build the technical skills they needed. But here's what I learned: the technical stuff? That's actually the easy part. The hard part is the relationship we have with money. The beliefs we carry from childhood. The shame we feel when we've made mistakes. The fear that we're not good enough to figure this out. Spoiler: we can all figure this out when we're given the right tools.
That's the real work of financial coaching.
It's not teaching you how to budget (though we'll do that). It's helping you understand why you spend the way you do. It's creating a judgment-free space where you can be honest about where you are. It's building your confidence so you can make financial decisions that align with your values and dreams.
I don't believe in shame or deprivation. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions or rigid rules that don't account for real life. I believe in meeting you exactly where you are, understanding your unique situation, and creating a path forward that actually works for you.
Financial fitness isn't about perfection - it's about progress - sometimes incremental progress and sometimes large leaps. It's about building understanding so that the habits created actually stick. It's about making peace with your past financial mistakes and creating a future that feels secure, hopeful and freeing.
I'll challenge you when you need it and I'll celebrate every win with you - no matter how small. Because I remember what it's like to feel like you're the only one who doesn't have it figured out. You're not the only one. And you don't have to figure it out alone.
I've always lived in regional towns - I was born in Benalla (Victoria) grew up on the Sunshine Coast & Toowoomba (Queensland) and have spent much of my adult life in Warwick (Qld) and Shepparton (Vic).
Starting after high school, I worked in small accounting firms - first as a trainee accountant, studying to make my way through to a senior accountant, practice manager and eventually establishing my own accounting practice. For a period of time I worked in both accounting as well as the local TAFE, training in business courses. Eventually I sold my practice and was a full-time trainer.
Financial Fitness with Julz was created from the realisation that I have always loved to empower people with knowledge - from my very first interviews with clients (preparing tax returns), mentoring new accountants and right through to being a 'proper trainer' at TAFE!

Life threw a few curveballs at me during 2024, and I spent much of 2025 living on the road, exploring Australia and New Zealand on my trusty motorbike.
Having discovered how much I love traveling, I'm now living as a motorcycle nomad - pulling up in places that catch my attention, admiring waterfalls and mountains, swimming at beaches and rock pools, catching the odd baseball game when I can, and trying out adventurous activities like feeding stingrays and white water sledging from time to time.
Even though every session happens over video call, I still love hearing what's worth seeing nearby wherever I've pulled up - the conversation always finds its way there anyway.
Where are you today? That's the opening question I hear from most of my clients in our sessions. The answers have been as varied as a caravan park in New Plymouth (NZ), Halmahera Island (Indonesia), Sapphire Coast (NSW), Brisbane (Qld), Shepparton (Vic), Rotorua (NZ), Ceduna (SA). If you'd like to follow my travels - you can follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see where I am, where I've been and where I'm headed next!

Ready to change your relationship with money? I'd love to hear from you.
